Research backs Step-Up English Academy’s view that building comprehension is a process. This commences with establishing a solid foundation, which is vocabulary. In other words, vocabulary has to be learnt first to facilitate understanding of what a learner reads. Reading a text or passage follows, the main idea(s) and the details of which should be grasped more easily if the learner does the first step. Finally, comprehension check is done to determine how much is understood by the learner.
